Marine Conservation in Indonesia
Indonesian waters hold a share of global marine biodiversity that is out of all proportion to their surface area. Reef systems here support species counts found almost nowhere else. The country sits inside the Coral Triangle, a region often described as the centre of marine life on this planet.
That richness is also what makes the losses expensive. Damage here does not just subtract from a local ecosystem. It subtracts from a global reservoir.

What we work on
Coastal and ocean cleanup. Organised removal of plastic debris from beaches, mangrove channels and near-shore water, run together with the communities who live on those coasts. Local crews know where debris collects and when — that knowledge is worth more than any equipment we could bring in.
Reef and habitat protection. Reducing the pressures we can reach: debris that smothers coral, discarded fishing gear that keeps catching long after it is lost, and the slow accumulation of plastic in habitat that species depend on for shelter and spawning.
Biodiversity monitoring. Documenting what is present so that change can be measured rather than assumed. Conservation without measurement is a feeling, not a programme.
Materials research. Removing debris addresses what is already here. Replacing the material addresses what arrives next. We treat both as the same job.

How we work
We are not a foreign organisation operating at a distance. The foundation is Indonesian, our research is done with Indonesian universities, and our field work runs through Indonesian coastal communities.
Our research partners include Universitas Padjadjaran, Politeknik Negeri Bali and Universitas Udayana. Working with university laboratories keeps our claims testable and our methods open to challenge, which is the only way environmental claims should be made.

Getting involved
We work with individuals who want to volunteer time, businesses looking for a partner with actual field operations rather than a logo placement, and researchers interested in seaweed-based materials and coastal restoration.
If any of those describes you, the contact form is the fastest route. Tell us what you are able to bring — time, expertise, funding, distribution, laboratory access — and we will tell you honestly whether it fits something we are doing.

Our Charitable Mission: Protecting Nature and Cleansing Our Oceans
At YAYASAN AKAR CINTA BUMI LESTARI, our mission goes far beyond developing innovative alternatives to traditional plastic. We are driven by a deep, unwavering commitment to ecological restoration, environmental stewardship, and inspiring a profound shift in how humanity relates to the Earth.
Rooted in the philosophy of living in harmony with nature, our charitable initiatives are designed to heal and protect our planet for generations to come.
OUR IDEA
YAYASAN AKAR CINTA BUMI LESTARI
YAYASAN AKAR CINTA BUMI LESTARI is a non-profit organization founded on a shared philosophy: caring for nature. Our mission is to protect the planet through innovation in harmony with nature.

Action-Oriented and Impact-Focused
YAYASAN AKAR CINTA BUMI LESTARI has developed a bioplastic formula from seaweed, which does not compete with food crops, freshwater, or fertile land. Our bioplastic completely degrades in soil, freshwater, or seawater within 3 months, without leaving microplastics behind. This is a real step toward a plastic-free future.

The project is led by a team of experts from three leading Indonesian universities - Universitas Padjadjaran, Politeknik Negeri Bali, and Universitas Udayana - collaborating in scientific research, formula development, and sustainability testing from raw material sourcing to the final product.

But YAYASAN AKAR CINTA BUMI LESTARI is not just about technology—it’s about values. We attract sponsors and volunteers to support environmental and charitable initiatives such as forest restoration, ocean cleanup, biodiversity protection, and environmental education. We aim to do more than just replace plastic—we strive to inspire a lifestyle that cares for the Earth.
